Hello everyone, it's Robert Brighton. Thank you for clicking on the Reading Room tab. Now, the Reading Room is kind of what it sounds like. It's a place where you'll find everything that you need to know about my books, their background, their history, the backstory in some cases, the real crimes that inspired certain parts of the stories and lots of things that, if you just read the book, you won't find.
The other thing you won't find in the books is a section I call Cutting Room Floor. If I write a hundred thousand word novel, I will just habitually write 10,000 to 20,000 words more that don't make it into the final book. It either was bad writing or the characters developed in a different direction, or a character didn't even make it into the final cut, or a plot arc didn't make sense anymore.
These things happen, but I don't throw any of this stuff away. I go back and I mine it for ideas and I like to share it with you because I think you'll also see what the process is that I use of deciding what's good enough. And that's one of the most important challenges that a writer has.
What's good enough, particularly when it's your own writing that you're critiquing? The other thing that you'll find in here is a new form for me, and that is the short story. In the reading room tab, you will find a series of short stories that'll tide you over between my novels. The novels take a while, and, even though I write pretty fast, I can't write that fast.
And so I will hopefully entertain you in between novel appearances with a series of short stories. The first one will be coming very shortly, so you'll see that soon. The other thing you'll find at Reading Room is everything you wanted to know for your book club. If you belong to a book club, good for you. I think they're great and I love participating with book groups, book clubs, and book groups. If I'm in a town where someone's meeting, I'd be happy to stop by and talk with the club, or, I've done a lot of these on Zoom. The point is I'd be honored if you chose one of my books as one of your next books, and I'm happy to support that in any way I can.
And whether you want me to join by Zoom or in person or not, you will find at this tab book club kits.
